biography

I was born in New York City and claim it as the place I grew up and love. I love the Jets, the Yankees, the Rangers, sunsets along the Hudson River and most of all the streets and people of New York. I spent my formative years as an actor, a husband, a father, and a man on Sullivan Street between Prince and Spring. It was, to say the least, magical. Of course, that is only partially true. My childhood was spent in a little village about twenty miles north of the city. There I learned and developed the essential elements of art… empathy, love, and imagination. The city is where I employed all these indispensable aspects of art and life that make me the actor and the human being I am today.

This site is to share my experiences, help you discover what could be yours, and to take a deep dive into what I do… in my words, videos and images. It is to tell you that art is life, life is art and that acting or being a storyteller, is a tough way to make a living but an absolute joy and noble way to express yourself. We are the holders of an art that has been around since the dawn of time. We tell stories that bend time and bare truth. We express what others can’t in order to both reflect what the world experiences and share what it is that makes us all alive.

If you decide to go down this road you will feel exalted and privileged, not to just make money or to be famous, in what can be a very lucrative and tricky business but understanding that you are conveying the very soul of being human and participating in the complex expression of the human condition.

In Hebrew there is a word, Kavanah, which means intention or having a sincere feeling, a direction of the heart. Often used for prayer, I propose we use this concept for art and life.  Acting demands a direction of the heart, it needs a sincere and committed feeling. It needs intention. And yes, it can be religious.  The feeling of a moment as you act that supersedes an audience is rare but magnificent. It is what we struggle to find repeatedly. Taking on the role of storyteller is hopefully bringing people to a place they have never been before, to give them an experience they can treasure. You become priest, shaman, rabbi, imam, or a guide to better understanding.

Let’s do it together… discovering, playing and finding all directions of the heart.
